3 Days in Macau

Macau… the Vegas of China! truthfully I needed a bit of downtime when I came here, so I was really excited when my hotel room was upgraded to a suite. I mean… there was a full marble bathtub in a room the size of my apartment. I planned on exploring and going out but that fell through pretty quickly.

Days OOO: 2-3* if you fly from the US. Long. Ass. Flight.
*I would tag this onto a visit to Hong Kong, it’s so easy to take the TurboJET directly from Macau to the HKG airport, or Hong Kong itself.

Budget Style: YOLO

Where I stayed: Sheraton Grand Macau

What I did:

Day 1: Wander around the hotel and people watch in the gambling areas, relaxation time (sorry I’m boring)

Day 2: Taxi to the historical center. Marveled at how European and Portuguese everything looked! Walked through town and towards the ruins of St Paul’s Cathedral. Next I went to Mandarin’s House, which had great decor and fun details for Instagram. I had a late lunch at O SANTOS restaurant, which features authentic Portuguese cuisine. As I had not been to Portugal yet, it was funny to have my first traditional meal in Asia.

At night I went to the City of Dreams. Started off at the Hard Rock Cafe because there was live music and met some random people. Later on I decided to go to Club Cubic which is apparently the best club in Macau… but it is weird because the Chinese people don’t dance to edm at all. They literally stand there… which isn’t fun to me. Maybe it’s changed though?

Day 3: To finish celebrating the promotion I got, I went to the Macau tower and proceeded to jump off of it. AJ Hackett is reputable and I felt confident I would survive what they called the highest bungee jump in the world. It was a wild ride, and there was a great view of the city included 🙂

There was probably a lot left to see and do, but after a short weekend I then went straight to the HKG airport and flew back to DC. There was so much construction 2 years ago that I’m super curious as to what Macau is like today!
